Team member becomes Linux Certified Professional

We are pleased to announce that Paul McCann, one of our web developers has become a Linux Certifield Professional following a 7 day residential course. Our congratulations to Paul.

Pauls accounts of his 7 day experience:

"On November 30th I traveled down to Charlbury just a few miles outside Oxford to begin a seven day intensive training course on Linux, should I pass the course I would be a Linux Certified Professional. When joining the course I should have taken note of the promotional material stating that I would be staying at Firebrand Training's Boot Camp. Under the impression that Boot Camp was a phrase banded about by training companies throughout the country I paid little attention to what I had signed up for thinking it would be much like the training courses I had attended previous. Ironically being on a training course is all about picking up skills and it wasn't long into my taxi journey from the train station to the training facility that I improved my perception skills that boot camp means boot camp as the long country road turned into a dirt track leading me through a forest and into the wilderness".

"5 miles from civilization the facility boasted inclusive meals, soft drinks and rooms not a minutes walk away from the labs. Day's consisted of 8am starts till 8pm with reading to carry me through the night in preparation for the next days training, with the ultimate goal of successfully completing two exams both making the certification. Wednesday's exam covered the following areas:

    Linux Installation
    Using the Linux Shell
    VI Skills
    Hardware Installation
    Partitioning and File Systems
    File Systems and Commands
    X Config and Troubleshooting
    Text Processing
    Software Installation

With another exam on Saturday covering these areas.

    Linux Boot Process and Runlevels
    Using Linux and GNU Documentation
    Managing Users and Groups
    System Administration
    Kernal Configuration and Custom Compilation
    Linux Shells and Scripting
    Linux Print
    Networking
    Network Services
    Security

"After an exhausting 7 days cut of from society and two exams successfully completed I can now call myself a Linux Certified Professional - although I'm still somewhat institutionalised".
